Flawless With Dawlface

Just in case you were wondering weddings are not the only time of the year to appear flawless. I had a MAJOR need of flawless in August when Flirt Custom Lash Studio celebrated it’s one year anniversary. There was only one person to call  . . . Lindsay Daw from Dawlface Makeup Artistry. In she came ON TIME and PREPARED for a total overhaul – I felt bad for her. After asking some important questions I didn’t even think about like : what are you wearing ? What colour are your shoes ? (GAWD I love this lady !), are we going for glam or subtle ?  After mixing, testing and double checking in the light – I was HOT !!!! if I do say so myself. I received a TON of compliments that night and really Lindsay was the one that deserved them. Because sharing is caring I now present to you Dawlface MakeUp Artistry – don’t say I never gave you anything !

The Great Mascara Debate

Every women that has decided to get eyelash extensions has used mascara, so when they get their first set of lash extensions the first impulse is to use mascara. Most times mascara is no longer needed, in fact thats the purpose of having extensions is to no longer apply mascara. I almost never use mascara and when I do, it’s for a special event. For those that want to use it, what kind of mascara should they be using? The answer to this is simple  … oil-free. I can’t stress that enough — you must use oil-free mascara when putting on your extensions. Oil is used to remove the lash extensions, so it would only make sense that if you put an oil-based mascara on your lashes, they’ll come off.  Sometimes depending on the type or brand of mascara, the extensions will start dropping off right away.

That leads to the next questions, where do you buy oil-free mascara ?? If you are going to an Xtreme Lashes CERTIFIED lash stylist they will have mascara you can purchase. The mascara is made by Xtreme Lashes and works along with the whole eyelash system to produce the best result. Removing the mascara is another challenge, to remove it use a lint free applicator (I find the Q-Tips from the Dollar Store are the best because they are terrible and have no fluff). Dip the Q-Tip in oil free make-up remover (this can be found at the drug store) and gently remove the mascara using an under/over method.

Using and removing mascara all the time will cause undue stress on the extensions so using mascara once in awhile is best, rather than daily use. You have spent hard-earned money on your lash extensions and you want them to last, so pulling/rubbing/tugging on them is no good for anyone.

Proactive vs. Reactive

My day is filled with lashes, often full sets, but most time is spent on relashes. Let’s first answer “what is a relash?“.  A relash is eyelash extension maintenance. When you first had your lashes done, your CERTIFIED lash stylist applied an extension to every ADULT eyelash. When the baby eyelash grows in, it pushes out the adult lash and the extension goes with it. The baby eyelash matures into an adult lash and when you return in a few weeks another extension is applied to the new adult lash. This process continues for every other available ADULT lash until your original look is back. Everyone’s relash schedule is different.   Depending on your hair growth it could be 2 or 3 weeks when you notice your lashes are not as full. There are very few people that can have a beautiful full look while coming in for a relash every 4 weeks; their lashes are beginning to become a hot mess at this point.

Rather than waiting for your lashes to look terrible and calling your stylist to make an appointment at that point … why not schedule in advance? Too many times a client calls the day before they want to come in and I am unable to fit them in. I always feel bad when this happens, but there is little I can do if my day is full with clients that have booked in advance. To keep your lashes looking hot, book in advance, thus being proactive rather than reactive.
